October cotton is lint.
Not phutti on a rate board.
The ginning season is when the basis is discussed. The offer is still a bale of a named staple, FOB Karachi unless you ask otherwise.
By October the Multan belt is in cotton picking and ginning. Zarkaar exports ginned lint, not seed cotton from the trailer. The bale is 170 kg. A 40-foot high cube holds about 80 bales, about 13.6 metric tons. The customs heading for that lint is 5201.
The workhorse staple is 26 mm. China means the 28 mm program, and nothing we sell is past 30 mm. We do not call the lot Pima or Egyptian. We do not print a cents price or a phutti rate. Yarn is a different heading and a different count.
What a mill should send this month
The gin can talk weeks. The contract still needs a staple.
26 mm
Bangladesh, Vietnam, and Turkey are the mill countries on the lint lane. One bale spec covers them. China is not on that page.
28 mm
Name 28 mm if that is the spin. The China lane is that program. The same staple can be offered elsewhere only when the proforma says 28 mm. A request for staple past 30 mm is a refusal.
What a kissan should not expect
This page does not buy phutti and does not post a seed-cotton price. Cotton seed for sowing is a kharif bag, mid-April to mid-May, from the Multan counter. October is late for that seed. Fertiliser for the wheat that follows cotton is the rabi calendar.
We do not export cottonseed cake. Khal is an animal feed at the same counter, inside Pakistan.
