Lint is heading 5201.
Yarn is not.
The workhorse is 26 mm in 170 kg bales. The 28 mm lot is the program you must name. A yarn count belongs on its own invoice.
Zarkaar exports Punjab cotton lint that has not been carded or combed. That cargo is heading 5201. The workhorse staple is 26 mm, pressed in 170 kg bales. A 40-foot high cube holds about 80 bales, about 13.6 metric tons. Price follows New York cotton futures plus the Pakistan basis in the ginning season. We do not print a live cents figure.
Yarn is a different product and a different heading. Combed yarn that is 85 percent or more cotton, and not put up for retail sale, is the 5205 family. Below 85 percent cotton, the family is 5206. The count and the mill go on the proforma. We do not guess the subheading on this page, and we do not declare yarn as lint because a mill buyer already has a lint licence.
Which lot you are actually buying
Staple, country, and form each change the file.
26 mm lint
The mill countries on the lint lane are Bangladesh, Vietnam, and Turkey. One page covers them because the bale is the same and the difference is the buyer, not a new commodity. China is excluded from that page on purpose.
28 mm and the ceiling
China means the 28 mm program. The same staple can be offered to a mill country when the proforma says 28 mm. Nothing we sell is past 30 mm. We do not describe the lot as Pima or as Egyptian cotton.
Yarn
The UK and USA desks are where yarn is named. Minimums move with the count. A yarn invoice that still says “raw cotton” will be sent back. Retail-packed yarn is another national line again, and we confirm it before filing if a buyer asks for small put-ups.
What the declaration must not hide
Lint is not carded silver, not waste, and not a garment. Those are later chapters. We trade lint and, when the proforma says so, yarn. A gin visit can be arranged with the gin’s permission. We do not own the gin, and a visit is not a change of heading.
The lab sheet carries staple. If the classing misses the contracted millimetre, we do not “average it” into the heading. The lot is re-offered at the staple it made, or it is not shipped.
